At the Garden Gate is an app which connects growers and makers with the community.

Well, actually it’s more than that – it’s kind of a movement – one that promotes and preserves our iconic roadside stalls, and cottage industry by better connecting buyers and sellers, giving producers and makers swift access to more customers, and customers a different way to shop!
‍
Over time, we want to grow the roadside stall community, so that all our streets, whether suburban or regional, are dotted with these micro-businesses.

Buying local, fresh and in season
‍Shopping via the roadside is fun! What’s more, you know what you’re getting and where it comes from. You also know it’s fresh and in season… And, typically, roadside stalls are able to sell everything a little cheaper because they have less overheads – a bit of relief for the household budget!

Working towards creating community-led sustainable food supplies
‍Primary production is changing, and micro growers are taking centre stage. My dream is that everyone who is interested in growing food does so, (suburbs or regions). The incentive is that you take the opportunity to sell the surplus – who doesn’t want some extra income?

The future benefit for the wider community is that when more people are growing (and teaching children to do so) we will have more food, more variety and diversity of food, and as a by-product we’re working towards creating local, sustainable food resources, and putting food supply and distribution back into the hands of community.

Supporting primary and cottage industry
‍We don’t want to go toe-to-toe with the big supermarkets and retailers and we love small business and the markets! This is just an additional, alternative way to shop… If you’re a small business, eg, a cafe or a small grocery store, then joining the app might help you find other local producers and suppliers as you need them.

If you’re a market-seller, then you can sell any weekly surplus at your garden gate too. The app gives you another channel for getting your goods to market.  

Creativity, innovation and damn good stuff!
Now, here’s the VERY COOL thing …  What we discovered as we met more and more roadside stall owners while creating this platform is that aside from local produce, there is a plethora of incredible, amazing, super creative stuff people are making from home! Bags, furniture, hand made pots, art, skincare products, firewood sheds, garden beds …. etc! So, where appropriate, we’re including these too.
